Are there any changes to the JobSeeker Supplement?
While there are no changes to the base rate of JobSeeker payments the supplement will be reduced. The extra payment of $550 a fortnight will decrease to $250 a fortnight at the end of September.
This will reduce the fortnightly payment from $1,115 to $815.
However, from the end of September the amount you can earn before your JobSeeker payment is affected will increase from $116 to $300 per fortnight.
When will recipients need to start looking for work?
JobSeeker recipients will be required to actively start looking for work from August 4, 2020.
This means recipients will be required to engage employment services and commence four job searches per month, this number is expected to increase after September.
Penalties will be implemented for recipients who don’t meet these requirements and for those who turn down job offers.
What About Asset Testing?
Asset testing will be reintroduced and the partner income test will increase.
Currently a Jobseeker recipient is deducted 25 cents for every dollar of partner income earned over $996 a fortnight. This will be increasing to 27 cents for every dollar earned over $1,165 a fortnight.
